Yesterday, Y11 pupils watched a performance from the Manchester Actors called ‘Fighting for Words.’ Pupils were able to see the actors perform many of the poems that they are studying for their GCSE exam. This included poems such as ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade,’ ‘Remains,’ ‘Poppies’ and also some extracts from Shakespeare’s play. It was lovely to see pupils roaring with laughter at the groups rendition of parts of Midsummer Night’s Dream. It really helped to prove the point that poetry and Shakespeare’s plays are intended to be performed, heard, enjoyed and appreciated. We hope that seeing visual representations will help pupils to remember these poems for their exams.
