Graphics Faculty Homework Policy

Supporting worksheets will be handed out to pupils during lesson time to help them complete the following tasks:

Year 9

Homework 1
Collect research on different types of paper, card and board. Draw a table to show each type of paper, card and board and their uses.
Homework 2
Collect research on Smart materials and modern materials
Homework 3
research different types of packaging and their uses
Homework 4
Take one package apart and draw the net/development which produces the package and label the different parts
Homework 5
Collect research and write notes on print finishing techniques used after printing on packaging
Homework 6
explain what is meant by the term product life cycle, by using a suitable product such as a mobile phone
Homework 7
Collect research on all the different types of graphics equipment that are used to aid the designing and making of graphics based products
Homework 8
Research different types of fastenings used to connect paper and card together, and list their advantages and disadvantages
Homework 9
produce a flow chart of a manufacturing system
Homework 10
Research mechanisms and sketch/ label all the different types(such as gears, cams, levers, linkages e.t.c.)

Research glues/adhesives and their specific uses when joining materials together

Collect research on industrial printing processes/techniques such as flexography, offset lithography e.t.c

Year 10

Homework 1
Collect research on the following designers. Harry beck,Alberto alessi,Jock kinneir and Margaret calvert,Wally olins, and Robert sabuda

Collect research on social, moral, cultural and environmental issues related to graphics.
Homework 3
Collect research on recycling and sustainability(including the 6R’s:-repair, reduce, recycle, re-use, re-think and refuse) then do exam style questions.

Complete research on Health and Safety in the technology workshop and in the workplace.(in a factory for example)
Homework 5
Research CAD/CAM and do a chart on the advantages and disadvantages of CAD/CAM.
Homework 6
Complete research and notes on industrial production processes – One-off, batch, mass , continuous , job production and just in time production.
Homework 7
Complete a flow chart to explain how to use the vacuum forming machine.
Homework 8
Collect research on quality control checks and quality assurance. (especially when using industrial printing techniques)

produce a sequential illustration for making any type of packaging.
Homework 10
Design a point of sale display stand for a shop counter ,using 3D sketching techniques.(isometric and single/one point perspective)

Research plastics and their uses, aswell as doing a chart showing the different types of plastics and their specific uses.

design a chair and draw three views of it using orthographic projections.(plan, front and end views)

Year 11
