Today on the 8th May 2015 the History Department at Shevington Celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, generally known as VE Day or simply V Day. This was the public holiday celebrated on 8 May 1945 to mark the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces. The occasion will be commemorated with events across the UK and to mark this momentous day here at Shevington, we have created a mock street party to commemorate and emulate the celebrations which took place on this day 70 years ago. Pupils and staff alike are welcome to visit throughout the day to enjoy our display and to view our arrangement of famous historical photographs’.

“My dear friends, this is your hour. This is not victory of a party or of any class. It’s a victory of the great British nation as a whole”. Winston Churchill 8th May 1945.
