On Monday 8th June, two pupils were selected by Mrs Jones to meet Sir Ian McKellan at Wigan Town Hall. The Burnley born Oscar and Bafta nominated Actor, lived in Wigan for 8 years of his early childhood before relocating to Bolton then later studying at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, where he read English literature. Wigan Council awarded Sir Ian with a Wigan Star for the Walk of Fame placed on ‘Believe Square’.

Ben Foster and Charlotte Rudduck were amongst a privileged few invited to this special ceremony, enjoying tea and biscuits prior to the public official unveiling. Only four high schools across the Wigan borough were invited and were selected based on reputation of success in Drama. The pupils were overwhelmed to meet such an accomplished actor and Hollywood Star. Sir Ian offered words of wisdom for the students as they embark on their next journey in education and considering possible careers with the Performing Arts industry.

‘What a lovely speech by a lovely man’ Ben Foster claimed as he moved around the intimate room with ease, humility and grace. Sir Ian signed autographs and allowed pictures throughout this prestigious occasion, what a wonderful day for all involved. It certainly made everyone feel proud to come from Wigan!
