We were delighted that our Public Speaking team – comprising Year 8 pupils Michelle Nsemba, Erin Chard and Harry Jones – managed to make it to the Regional Final of the 2014-15 Youth Speaks competition.

The team, their parents and families, and Youth Speaks co-ordinator Mr Lunt journeyed early Sunday morning to the Forest Hills Hotel in Frodsham, Cheshire, to face another seven school teams in the Intermediate competition.

Our team gave perhaps their strongest performance so far, but unfortunately didn’t manage to make it through to the National Final; only the winning team went through.

Michelle Nsemba was awarded Best Chairperson – a real feat given the strength of the competing teams.

We would like to say how proud we are of all the team, who have worked so hard to get so far in this difficult and prestigious competition. They truly showed themselves to be winners!

A huge thank you to the team’s parents, for their ongoing support throughout the competition. Thank you also to the Rotary Club for their ongoing support of the competition, and especially to Gwyneth Millard for her input and assistance.

We hope the team take away many good memories from their experience; this will no doubt have boosted their confidence in having taken on such a daunting challenge at such a young age, and to have done so well in the process!

This year’s new Year 7 team will have some big shoes to fill…more on that to follow.”
