Tuesday afternoon saw a visit to Shevington from Councillor Susan Louden the Mayor of Wigan. As part of a tour of schools in the area she and her team chose to visit us here at Shevington to talk to Year 9 about her role as Mayor of Wigan and democracy in action.
There were also presentations from the Junior Mayor for the Day winner Angel Osifo and the Mayors Cadet Callum Mountfield. Our pupils were able to ask the Mayor questions and listened to how the Mayor keeps order in the council chamber.
We had a full insight into how an elections are set up and run by the council team and we even held a referendum on the refugee crisis and which has given us great insight into how we respond as a caring school to a humanitarian issue on this scale.
