Year 9 GCSE Drama pupils have started a new topic exploring a real life story about one of the last men in Britain to face capital punishment, Derek Bentley. Last week, pupils examined the particular crime scene in detail, focusing on the language used by the Police and the accused. Pupils used ‘marking the moment’ to highlight the two dramatic moments within the scene and the climax of a police officer being shot dead. Through drama, pupils not only develop their acting and directing skills but have cross-curricular links with History and Religious Education within this topic by debating the moral and ethical issues surrounding the death penalty for this crime.
