Amazing Personal Development at Shevington High School!
Today was our fantastic annual ‘Prep for Work Day’ which this year covered a wide range of sessions that will be invaluable to them as they embark on future studies and also as they enter adulthood.
The day consisted of 5 interactive sessions, two of which were delivered by the NCS – team at Wigan Athletic:
- Employability and Resilience, where students participated in team work and learnt about the of collaboration and key skills such as being prepared, being punctual and recovering from setbacks.
- CPR, the vital life-saving skill that everyone should know.
A session delivered by MADE and funded by GM Higher entitled ‘Rapid Revision’ which gave the students excellent, practical tips how to revise. This was so well received, the students loved how practical it was; indeed, all year 11 should be now able to tell you all about Rasputin..!
- The fourth session was from the Wigan NHS Spectrum team who delivered an engaging Sexual Health session.
- Finally, our wonderful Drama teacher Mr Hughes-Alty was joined by around 20 professionals from the local area who delivered mock interviews and learnt how to perform confidently.
The visitors commented on how well our students performed and how prepared and self-confident they are.
As usual our Year 11s did themselves proud.
Kristen Cunliffe in Year 11 said ‘ thank you, it’s the only time revision has made sense to me, I now see that it’s easy and not hard because you’ve given me such good steps, I got so much from it’.
Well done to all involved and especially our excellent Year 11!
