This week, Y10 History pupils enjoyed a trip to Dunham Massey. Accompanied by the tour guides, pupils went on a pre-planned circuit allowing all pupils to see the different aspects of the country house and former WW1 hospital.
Pupils enjoyed a range of experiences and activities. The first involved using detective work to try to understand some of the soldier’s stories using a range of primary evidence. Pupils also explored the house itself including the realistic hospital beds, operating theatre and the different quarters where the men stayed and recuperated. The actors, who made the whole experience life-like, helped our pupils to understand the reality of the situation at the time. Finally pupils explored the gardens and deer park before relaxing over lunch.
The trip was a great success helping to enhance pupil’s historical understanding by seeing Dunham Massey first hand.
