Overview

Shevington High School is a successful and over-subscribed 11-16 community school seeking to appoint a Curriculum Leader in History. The post offers a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher. You may already be a leader within your subject or seeking to move into leadership for the first time. (This post is advertised as a full time post, however, if you are interested in a part time role, please indicate this on your application.)

The successful candidate will work within our successful History Department. History is a very popular subject at Shevington High School with almost 70% of Key Stage 4 students choosing to study the subject at GCSE. It is essential that the successful candidate is an experience and effective History at KS3 and KS4 and has a strong vision for leading the department, shaping the strategic direction of the history team and empowering our students to become critical thinkers. This is a brilliant opportunity to shape the future of the department through a passion and enthusiasm for the past!

Personal attributes

The successful candidate must be innovative and creative in their approach to curriculum design and pedagogy. They will demonstrate a willingness to embrace adaptive teaching strategies as we continue to work collaboratively to meet the needs of all our learners. This will include developing and adapting the curriculum responsively ensuring that is it both dynamic and challenging.  You must also be able to develop effective assessment strategies which lead to timely targeted interventions and sure success for students. You will also have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

This is an exciting time for the successful candidate to join Shevington High School. The History department is located in a suite of classrooms where the team can work collaboratively. The successful candidate would be expected to lead the department, raising attainment through effective monitoring and evaluation, the implementation of targeted interventions and the strategic development of teaching and learning. This will include planning and delivering high quality schemes of work and deploying departmental resources effectively to ensure high quality learning experiences for students. You will also facilitate and support extra-curricular opportunities that enrich the lives of our students here at Shevington.

The school is research-led. We are always looking for evidenced based approaches to developing our practice and are guided by the best evidence of strategies that will achieve success for all our students. All teachers are expected to engage with research and to embrace a wide range of CPD opportunities with all teachers being allocated additional time on their timetable to support CPD activities.

You would be an integral part of our Curriculum Leadership Team where we work collaboratively to ensure that the school delivers outstanding educational opportunities for our students and staff.  Alongside this, there are opportunities to contribute to the wider leadership of the school.
