The SAIL Curriculum at Shevington High School
The SAIL curriculum at Shevington High School is a dedicated programme focused on personal development beyond the classroom. It provides opportunities, challenges, and encouragement to help students grow in confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence, equipping them for life and success beyond school.
The SAIL curriculum teaches pupils how to develop holistically. Ofsted, May 2026
Key Features of the SAIL Curriculum:
- Personal Development Focus:
SAIL builds essential life skills such as decision-making, resilience, emotional intelligence, and self-esteem, while fostering respect for diversity and inclusivity.Pupils take responsibility for their own academic and spiritual development. Ofsted, May 2026
- Termly Missions:
Each term, students participate in a mission tailored to their year group, aiming to develop their skills and character. From their first presentation in Year 7 to securing their next steps beyond school in Year 11, missions offer unique and challenging experiences. Success depends on students' effort and commitment.Pupils complete regular 'missions' to enable them to develop their values. Ofsted, May 2026
- PSHCE Lessons:
Students attend PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship Education) lessons, which include financial literacy, decision-making, and healthy relationship-building. These lessons support missions and prepare students for real-life challenges.Leaders make sure that pupils learn about how to keep themselves safe. Ofsted, May 2026
- Weekly Coaching Sessions:
Shevington students benefit from personalised coaching sessions, offering a rare opportunity to reflect on goals and progress. These sessions are supported by logbooks, promoting consistent personal growth.Pupils can choose to attend highly effective small-group coaching sessions weekly to discuss their personal goals with staff... They say these sessions help them to become the best version of themselves. Pupils who regularly attend these sessions achieve very well, in line with their starting points. Ofsted, May 2026
- The Shevington BIG 6:
The BIG 6 values, including resilience and accountability, are integral to the SAIL curriculum, ensuring students develop into responsible and engaged citizens.
Why SAIL Matters
While academic achievement is essential, personal development is equally critical. SAIL empowers students to explore future career opportunities, build independence, and make informed decisions, setting them up for success in life and education.
The SAIL curriculum at Shevington is a cornerstone of the school's commitment to holistic education, where every student is challenged to embrace opportunities, overcome challenges, and realise their potential.

SAIL Time Strategy
At Shevington High School, SAIL Time takes place from 8:45 am to 9:30 am every Monday, and 8:45 am - 9:15 am Tuesday to Thursday
Every Student will receive one coaching session per week to discuss both academic and personal development. Coaching will take place from 8:30 am to 8:43am. The coaching day will be agreed between the student and their SAIL tutor/coach. All students are expected to attend their coaching sessions and record their sessions in their logbooks.
This dedicated time is designed to allow students to develop foundational skills in numeracy and literacy, participate in assemblies, focus on termly missions and review their attendance and class chart data.
Throughout the week, SAIL tutors will monitor class charts and have conversations regarding students behaviour ratios, celebrating achievements and setting goals and targets to support academic and personal development.
Year 11 students have dedicated time for independent study, focused support in GCSE English, Maths, and Science, and the completion of termly missions designed to support college applications and prepare them for life beyond Shevington.
